Frau Steiner did some amazing needlework once again. Missing the chest eagle, which Barry forgot to include - Nick Morigi is sending one ASAP for my weekend bash at Phoenix Urban. (Places still available!)

Did the Germans wear the y straps over or under the shoulder boards, or perhaps both ways was acceptable?

I was always under the impression that as with uk webbing. On the drill square/parade/exercise it was worn under the epaulette.

In the realities of the field where you would want to be able to slip your webbing off your shoulders when at rest or in lulls in the battle then you'd have it over.

The other half decided I could start getting kit as she doesn't want her car for another couple of weeks, so I had a rather large box at the door this morning. I went on a bit of spree at SOF yesterday and ordered a 'couple' of things:

M42 Jump Suit
M1C Helmet
Large Rigger webbing set
Enlisted man's shirt
Jump boots
Helmet Net
82nd Airborne shoulder insignia
48 star American Flag
Mountain pack

I know airborne troops probably wouldn't have had the pack, however I wanted something from the period to hump my camping kit around in. The flag and 82nd patch haven't been sewn onto my jacket yet, I was in to much of a hurry to try it all on. I've got a 101st patch as well, but was thinking on after Rhys pointed out it'd look more authentic if a few of us were from the same unit, so I'm going to put the 82nd on for CR and alternate it when I feel like it. A couple of the bits of webbing look a bit new and orangey, however everything else feels/looks great.

A couple of pics below, it's my first impression so it's a work in progress, any hints/tips/ideas appreciated.

No, looks good. Sorry, didn't mean to be derogatory. Just soooooo new compared to my knackered old crap....mind you it is all 60 years old or so!

Oh, and do your shirt and jacket sleeves up, tut tut.

Heh, all this talk of what goes where reminds me of something i was once told:

"live with whats in your bergan, fight with whats in your webbing, survive with whats in your pockets!"

For me, that's choccy and cigs in all available pockets then...

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
